South Carolina's Hall of Fame
Both statesmen, Robert Smalls and Richard Wilson, were inducted into the South Carolina Hall of Fame recently. Smalls was a former slave and Civil War hero later became a state representative, senator, and U.S. congressman. His great, great grandson represented him at the ceremony. Wilson, a former U. S. Secretary of Education and also former governor of South Carolina, was personally present to accept the honor. [Photo by Tom Murray of The Sun News.]
