Controversy over Fish
While some species of fish are plentiful, studies assert that others have been over-fished, including snapper and grouper. Recently, the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC), managing waters 200 miles offshore in SC and NC, placed a 6-month ban on snapper and grouper fisheries and proposed closing nearly 10,000 additional square miles of the South Atlantic. Nationwide fishermen met in Washington, DC, recently to oppose the move.
