Civil War Sesquicentennial Events
On December 20, 1860, the Palmetto State was the first to secede from the Union, and next year is the 150th anniversary of this event. For its part, South Carolina plans a suitable statewide observance of the sesquicentennial of the event with re-enactments, lectures, programs, and more, all of which commemorate the legacy in a positive way with long-term benefits for the state and its modern-day citizens.
