your summer break? No need to stay home and watch re-runs on
TV, and it's certainly not too late to plan a stay at the
beach, either. Our rates are based on availability, so
bargains and unadvertised specials are still a possibility.
Perhaps you are like so many school-aged children who,

vacation can begin. If you have no plans yet, check with us

right in full view of the ocean. Plenty of freedom of movement

In fact, the Fourth of July is only

down to Labor Day in September. So, while you still have time
to plan something delightful for your summer getaway, the
summer itself could, well, get away if you procrastinate.

Heart Walk and
Horizon at 77th
Heart Walk is the American
Heart Association's premier fund raising event to combat heart
disease. Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts is participating in
Heart Walk this year
through team organization according to departments across its
sister properties. Our team names are as follows:
- STRESS FREE - Upper Management/Administration
- FRIENDLY BETABLOCKERS - Food and Beverages
- KEEP ON TICKING - Front Desks / Reservations
- HEART CLEANERS - Housekeeping
- THE TRANSPLANTS - Maintenance
With an
overall goal of raising $3,000 by the October 16th walk,
participants are busy organizing their teams and accepting
donations on their behalf for the walk. Watch for more about
this event in future newsletters.
Golf and Horizon at 77th
If you love golf, a stay at Horizon must include our Glens
package, in particular playing the Heathland Golf
Course at The Legends.
Your
golf experience at Heathland means an journey
into the realm of traditional Scottish golf - few to no trees,
rolling mounds, and strategically placed bunkers, plus
vegetation that sometimes seems to beckon your ball into its
lush tresses. You won't let it, though. Keep your ball in the
fairway, and you'll do just fine on this course.
By
the way, another charming but, to the uninitiated, sometimes
perplexing aspect of Heathland is its
Scottish characteristic of omitting hole numbers and yardage
markers on the course. Just use your yardage book provided on
each cart, and you will have the distance information you need
to make each shot.
Another tip relates to the 8th
hole, in particular the tee box. Some players brave enough to
face up to a bit of scoffing back at the clubhouse have been
known to confess that they could not find any but the red tees
on 8. The solution which they discovered later was to go
farther along the cart path, past the red tees, then on
farther around the curve to the left where the white, green,
and blue tees become evident. They ARE there,
so have a great time on this enchanting course.
Featured Recipe -Summer Pudding
Ingredients:
- 5 ounces black currants (check the frozen fruit section
of your grocery or substitute with blackberries)
- 5 oz red currants (try using cranberries if no red
currents available)
- 5 ounces raspberries
- 6 1/2 ounces strawberries (quartered or halved)
- 6 to 8 slices of fresh white bread (crusts removed)
- cream for serving (optional)
- fine white sugar (to taste)
Put all the
berries except the strawberries in a large pan with 1/2 cup
(125 ml / 4 fl oz) water. Heat gently until the berries begin
to collapse. Add the strawberries and turn off the heat. Add
sugar to taste. Set aside to cool.
Line a pudding mold
or bundt pan with bread. Cut a large circle out of the bread
for the bottom of the basin. Then cut the rest into fingers.
Drain some juice off the fruit mixture. Dip one side of each
piece of bread in the juice before fitting it, juice-side
down, into the mould. Do not squeeze or flatten or it will not
absorb the juices as well.
Fill the center of the mold
with the fruit and add a little juice. Cover the top with a
layer of dipped bread, juice-side up, and cover with plastic
wrap. Place a plate onto the plastic wrap then weigh it down.
Refrigerate overnight. Carefully turn out the pudding and
serve with any extra mixture and heavy cream for a special
enhancement. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

My best friend and I had
arrived (after driving all night from Pennsylvania) at about 2
in the afternoon. Really all we wanted to do was be able to
get into our suite and shower and nap for a few hours so
delirium would subside. The room wasn't ready, no prb I
figured it wouldn't be (having worked for an all suite hotel).
We went to the pool and the beach. Very, very nice. The beach
was less than a 5 min walk. When we got into our room, the
suite was sweet! lol. It was very clean. We had a problem with
our toilets and the next day we were moved into an even bigger
suite with the super duper help of the Night Manager Mark.
OMGORGEOUS! We really enjoyed our stay, thank you all so much.

Fun Facts
Are
you at work right now, but wishing you were here at the beach
or on one of our coastal golf courses? Does each day feel a
little longer than the one before it? Well, you're right. It
is. According to scientists, every day is about 55 billionths
of a second longer than the day before it.
Anglers out
number golfers 2 to 1. That is nearly 50 million people in the
United States out there fishing at some point during a year

A nautical
mile is used to measure distance at sea. The nautical mile is
about 1.15 larger than the "statute" mile used by land
lubbers.
According to a 5th century Chinese scroll,
fashionable Chinese women of antiquity used to make a dye out
of the skin of purple eggplants and polish their teeth with it
until they were a shiny gray.
According to state
statistics, when you are in South Carolina, you are within
driving distance of a lake, somewhere.
The word
"hiccup" is the older spelling, but "hiccough" (launched in
the 17th century) is still a valid spelling and retained by
dictionaries.
The sound you make when you hiccup is
caused when the space in your throat near the vocal cords
snaps shut.
The longest one-syllable word in the
English language is "screeched."
