Greetings from the Beach, Friends
Ocean breakers surging on to our perfect part of the
beach, an occasional bird sound over the rustling of the
waves, sunlight glistening on the water's surface - this scene
is only part of our gorgeous late spring environment here at
Horizon.
Spring has kept us busy here at Horizon with
the hustle and bustle of events and guests, plus additional
activities such as fund-raising efforts for The American
Cancer Society's Relay for Life, shown in more detail below.
With spring rapidly fading into summer, we wonder where the
time is going.
Temperatures are increasing to the
point now that wearing bathing suits is comfortable out by the
water. Visitors are taking advantage of our specially
discounted rates to take in some relaxing "me" time at
surfside. Even a few days are better than nothing, don't you
think! Some guests are beginning a long hiatus from their
usual routines, and others only have a few days for a long
weekend. Either way, the old saying applies about having any
kind of day at the beach, good or bad! It's better than
anything else!
With ample space at Horizon, everyone
feels as if this beach is his or her own private haven! Don't
let your time slip away before taking personal advantage of
the benefits of relaxing by the water! In fact, July 4th is
sooner than you think, so how about a vacation at Horizon for
the 4th!
Horizon's fabulous discounts are still
available! What better way to relieve stress than to stop what
you are doing and then really listen to the measured action of
the water against the sand, as regular as deep-breathing.
Isn't it time for you to return to the beach?

More News about Team Efforts in Relay for Life
Team-Horizon enjoyed meeting with other
Grand Strand teams in the Relay for Life, held at The Ripken
Experience ball field on April 24th. The huge event included
getting together with other groups whose common goal is to
raise as much money as possible in the fight against cancer.
Affiliated with The American Cancer Society, Relay for Life
held different meanings for each person, but in total everyone
walking for this 12 hour period in April wished everyone else
well!
Horizon continues to mount up dollars in its own
effort to help with cancer awareness and to find a cure for
this disease. Total funds raised by Team-Myrtle Beach Seaside
Resorts, of which Horizon is a member, amounts to $9.000 and
rising.
Additionally, at the April Relay for
Life, our own Director of Engineering Dennis Chestnut brought
significant attention to our fund-raising objectives through
his leadership and talents in numerous areas: "The Duck
Trainer" for the KenDucky Duck Races, also as the mesmerizing
"First Annual Ms. Relay Myrtle Beach" for which he was awarded
a coveted sash and crown (shown here in the middle).
Besides devoting its extra-curricular efforts to the
Relay for Life, Team-Horizon has continued its fund-raising in
other and numerous ways, from sales of home-made items such as
foods and crafts to accepting donations on behalf of The
American Cancer Society.
Another exciting challenge
will occur in August when we join forces with other volunteers
of Team-Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts to hold a golf
tournament. The First Annual "Swing Fore the Cure" Golf
Tournament at Myrtle Beach National's Kings North Golf Course
will occur on August 1st this year, with promises at this
early stage of the planning for a fabulously fun event! This
one-day tournament will be held on a Saturday with the
"shotgun" start at 9 on the Kings North course. Beverages will
be available to the players, as well as the awards luncheon,
and plenty of prizes, not only for top placement, but also for
last place, closest to the pin, longest drives, and so much
more.
We invite you to click on the web site
link for this special tournament:
www.MBSRAnnualGolfTournament.com. The site is building, so if
you would like more information not currently shown there,
please contact Brenna (843.251.3519) or Jenna (843.655.1409).
Costs range from $75/individual to $260/foursome team, and
hole sponsorships are $100 each. An added feature is a "bonus
package" of entry tickets for prizes (2 mulligans plus 5
raffle tickets) at $20/individual and $80/foursome. We hope to
see you out there on the course!
Additionally, more
fund raising events are ongoing. Also affiliated with the golf
tournament is a silent auction. Bidders buy chances to win
wonderful prizes contributed by donor companies. Here are some
of our wonderful contributors, to whom we give our heart-felt
thanks:
- T-Bonz
- Family Kingdom
- Ripley's Aquarium
- Tanger Outlets
- Tri-County Mechanical Inc.
- Enchanted Sailing Charters
- Wal-Mart
- SeaBoard Signs
- Target Media
- Legends in Concert
Thank you to one and
all for the generous donations of prizes. Every one of them
helps raise money in support for the American Cancer Society's
campaign to bring awareness and ultimately a cure for cancer.
Prizes will be announced at the awards luncheon for the golf
tournament on August 1st.

Room 515 at Horizon, 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths,
whirlpool tub, 9 foot ceilings, great location, beautiful
balcony views of the ocean, great dining outside on the
balcony. The unit had [the] very things you need and more. We
were 2 couples with complete privacy in this two bedroom
suite. What a great week. Enjoy the best kept secret in Myrtle
Beach. Up the street are great dining places and a secluded
beach in the upscale area of Myrtle Beach.

We are very
well traveled [and] this property is very well maintained. The
rooms are immaculate. The mood is right as soon as you walk in
your room for family or romance, eat in, or just plain
coziness. This is a miniature upscale apartment. The staff
goes above and beyond. Job Well Done! Parking is free and

We travel ALL the time and
we are always looking for condos, villas that will accommodate
our family and provide us with quality service. We had a great
time and we LOVED our rooms. The two-bedroom [unit] was
accommodating for us, and we enjoyed having two bathrooms so
that the girls could have their own! My five-year-old
especially enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub! We were there
for the girls' cheer-leading competition, but we were able to
get some relaxation in style while there!!! My husband and I
both agree we will only stay at the Horizon when we visit
Myrtle Beach!!!

Fun Facts
Beach fact - Aside from water activities, the most
relaxing past-time at the beach is...believe it or
not...reading.
Grandfather Mountain, NC, is the highest peak in the Blue
Ridge and also the only private park in the world designated
by the United Nations as an International Biosphere Reserve.
Most offshore artificial reefs are marked by yellow nun
buoys with a 4-foot tall mast and radar reflector. These buoys
are maintained by the Marine Resources Division to assist
boaters in locating and using the reefs. They are placed far
enough away from reef materials to avoid entanglement, but are
close enough to allow anglers and divers an easy visual
reference point from which to locate submerged structures.
Artificial reefs are man-made, typically of old ship
wrecks to PVC pipes to building materials, with a focus on
environmental safety. Peak fishing activity on artificial
reefs just off shore occurs from May through November. Peak
diving near artificial reefs occurs from May through October
when water temperatures and weather conditions are the most
favorable.
Air pollution is responsible for 33% of the toxic
contaminants that end up in oceans and coastal waters. About
44% of the toxic contaminants come from runoff via rivers and
streams.
The Blue Whale is the largest animal on our planet ever

Lobsters have teeth-like structures in their stomach to

mill."
Soft-shelled crabs are blue crabs that have just molted
their shells.
